EAST TN FROM A TO Z

East Tennessee from A to Z

Independent Insurance Consultants is proud to partner with East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and celebrate ETCH 75th Anniversary!

Independent Insurance Consultants is the corporate sponsor of East Tennessee from A to Z. Its support allows all proceeds to be donated to the hospital. Owner Blake McCoy and his staff have a passion to educate our community on the importance of insurance planning. As a new father, husband, and small business owner, Blake understands how quickly things can change. “Until my son was born, I didn’t know how much I could instantly love someone. I genuinely believe it is never too soon or too late to start planning for your child’s future. By starting a college plan, or purchasing a whole life insurance policy for as little as $2 per month, you will help them get a jumpstart on their future. My son Kyan inspired me to partner with ETCH. It is a privilege to be a part of a community that understands the importance of protecting our children.

This book was written and illustrated by children, for children. With each word and splash of color, East Tennessee from A to Z highlights the many things that local children love about the place they call home!

East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and the Books by Kids Foundation launched a Young Authors Contest that gave middle school students in 16 counties an opportunity to author East Tennessee from A to Z. All participating students were given an A to Z starter list containing local

venues, characteristics, and historical figures beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Students were urged to use the list as a guide to write a unique story about East Tennessee. After reviewing numerous entries, the judges’ panel selected the story by sixth grader Jenna McMillan as the winner. She and her facilitator, mother Kim McMillan, each won a grand prize.

The illustrations were created at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital by current and former patients as well as their siblings. Special thanks to Ellie Kotsianas, a senior at East Tennessee State University and former patient, for helping the patients with the illustrations and creating the first and last illustration.

Thanks to generous local support, all sales proceeds will be donated to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.
